At first this was just the tree silhouette and the sloping hill. I liked how it looked rough so I went in that direction. Also, I figured that the tree looked unhealthy and old, so I added a tire swing with nobody attending it. I wanted to make the tree look more 'evil' I guess, so I stuck a couple crows in there. Now I have an evil-looking tree with an abandoned tire swing. The swing didn't make too much sense to me without a person. That's when I thought of adding the lonely figure sitting down with his hands on his knees as if he was tired, or our of energy, or perhaps elderly. I made him face away from the tree as if his carefree 'childhood' was behind him and he can never go back. The image I had then was good. I was thinking "wallpaper" so I didn’t want to crowd up one of the sides. But then I felt like adding a little something to contrast with the general mood. So I drew some flowers at the base of the tree; one fully bloomed and one not yet bloomed. I purposely had the un-bloomed flower closer to the tree and both of them bending outwards. This was a nice touch. Everything is rugged with sharp curves except the flowers, which are smooth and elegant. I liked the emotional contrast so much I thought of something a lot bigger that would add a stronger mood to the entire image. So I thought of an urban city. I found an image to vector, that's the Chicago skyline by the way, and I roughened up the skyline. I thought the position of the city was perfect. Everything is pointing away from what was he major focus in the image; the tree, and is now pointing to this new symbol.
Now, the final image. The lonely figure is getting away from his busy, adult life in the city. He chooses to visit his fondest childhood memory, the old tire swing. He sees that it's not very safe and the tree is a little intimidating. So he decides sit by himself for a while, on top or a rock, facing towards his currently reality of being caught up in the unforgiving city.
I had enough fun on the last one to make this. Made with vectors in PS8. Stock from sxc.hu: Tree, Skyline, Birds, Helicopter, and the Lonely Figure. If your screen requires a larger resolution and you would like this as your wallpaper, note me and I will resize it for you. Please enjoy.
Wonderfully atmospheric, and the contrast between the tree with the tire swing, the lonely figure, and the city skyline is terrific. The whole thing has the feeling that there's a story behind it - have you thought of it at all?

That's cool - I like your new title, and the description of the creative process.
I was thinking story more in terms of a plot connected to the image. For example, the figure to me looks bent over, but still powerful - the way he's gazing towards the city make me think he's been exiled from it, and one day he'll try to get back in there. The tire swing is definitely something to do with childhood (or at least the past), and the bird looks like some sort of omen.
That's just my first impression, though, and I could probably come up with something more detailed. Or else I'm just reading too much into it.

I really like the overall mood of this picture, One can tell that there's something lonely about it - even before noticing the lonely man.
But the touch I like the most is the story behind it Now I know great pieces can grow from just one part - you don't need to have the complete picture figured out before starting. Something I needed to hear
I think you should keep doing vectors
